Dental Check by 1 yr Campaign launched.

We are pleased to be supporting the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry’s ( BSPD) –  Dental Check by 1 yr campaign launching today!

Along with many Health Professionals the BSPD are educating parents about taking their little ones to the dentist before they are 1 year old.  Bickiepegs Finger Toothbrush is a great way to introduce tooth brushing from as early as the teething stage and little ones will soon become accustomed to the dentist experience if you take them along from an early age.  Children’s appointments are covered by the NHS .

PRESS RELEASE 19th September 2017

On 19th September 2017 in Manchester, the BSPD’s (British Society of Paediatric Dentistry) 65th Annual Scientific Conference will kick-off with delegates, sponsors and exhibitors unified in their concern for the unacceptable level of children with tooth decay which is so high that it is now becoming a high level political issue. As a committed supporter of babies’ oral care since 1925, Bickiepegs Healthcare, a sponsor at the conference, is offering all health visitors a free Bickiepegs Finger Toothbrush & Gum Massager and a uniquely slanted Doidy Cup as part of their commitment to educating parents on how important a dental check by the age of one is to their children’s longterm oral health.

Dental Check by One (#DCby1) is a nationwide campaign to encourage parents and carers to take their child to the dentist before their first birthday. “Organisations across health care are supporting the campaign so that whether the parents are in a surgery, clinic, school, hospital or their own home they are informed of the importance of getting their child to the dentist by the age of one.” Said Claire Stevens, President, British Society of Paediatric Dentistry. “This first visit to the dentist is an important opportunity for a child to start a life of positive dental care and for parents to get advice on how to keep their child’s teeth healthy and strong.”
Chris Blincoe, Director, Bickiepegs Healthcare, commented “It is great to see so many delegates – from the health care sector plus infant oral care brands – coming together with the objective of reaching out to parents and encouraging them to have their infant’s teeth checked by a dentist before the age of one. We welcome the opportunity to get involved in the #DCby1 campaign at this year’s BSPD Conference, so that collectively we can tackle the alarmingly high number of children needing filings and extractions due to decay. We believe that health visitors, in particular, have an important role to play in getting the message out early to the parents of young babies.”
Both the cost to the NHS and the unnecessary suffering experienced by children make the need for joined-up action more important than ever. Indeed, NHS data in 2013/14 shows that over 66,800 children in England, Scotland and Wales (under the age of 18) had a general anaesthetic to remove decayed teeth. In 2013/14, 49% of 5 year olds and 58% of 8 year olds are reported to have had experience of dental decay. And the estimated cost to the NHS in 2015/16 of providing multiple dental extractions under general anesthetic in under 19s totalled a massive £50.5 million a year.
